A heart, tied into a knot. Two rows of tiny cubic zirconia trace the heart on top of this ring, then cross under it and run out along the shoulders, so the whole top reads as one continuous love knot. Beside the knot, on the smooth polished bands, sit the birthstones - one for each person - with a name engraved next to each one.

Start with two stones and two names, and add up to four more as the family grows: the ring is made in the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6-stone layouts shown in the photos. Stones fill the left shoulder first, then the right, so the ring stays balanced at every count. Each round stone is 2 mm in a low bezel, and each name takes up to 8 characters.

• 2 to 6 birthstones: choose how many people the ring carries, then pick a month for each stone from the twelve simulated birthstones.
• A name beside every stone: up to 8 characters each, laser engraved along the polished band.
• Heart love-knot top: pave cubic zirconia heart whose sides cross beneath it, 12 mm wide and 14 mm tall.
• Everyday weight: the band narrows to 4 mm at the base and weighs about 5 g.
